How to replace mcafee security ctr with norton antivirus 2007?

Hi, I have McAfee Securty Center AV (v9.1) installed on my pc. The 1 yr of new virus updates expired and just purchased norton antivirus 2007. What would be the best way to install norton av 2007? Should i first uninstall the mcafee software? If so, how to? If i go to programs, start, and the mcafee folder, there is no uninstall option there. Details please.

also, when i boot up the pc, a bunch of apps (ie yahoo msgr, aim) get started up that i dont use and i wind up shutting these apps that start up upon boot by right clicking on the icons in the lower right hand corner of the screen and exiting out. how can i remove these programs from starting up automatically on boot so i dont have to go thru the nonsense of exiting from a program (ie yahoo msgr) that start up when i turn on the pc and have an icon sitting in the lower right hand corner of screen? thanks much

thanks

If you want to uninstall Mcafee, go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs. Find Mcafee and tell it to uninstall.

Now, this is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

But if you really want to stop those programs from running, one (safer) way is to:

Remember, if you mess this up, your computer may not boot into windows, so don't randomly uncheck boxes.

Go to Start Menu

Run...

type: msconfig

hit OK

When the system configuration window comes up

Select "Selective Startup"

On the top tabs, go to "Startup"

Uncheck the items you don't want to start.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can also turn off services that the system runs automatically, but this is a lot riskier.

Good luck.
