im assuming u mean Windows Defender when u say windows protection...



yeah u can have both of them but let the antivirus's firewall cos windows's one isnt upto the mark and give thae antivirus the upper hand....

No, they shouldn't directly HARM your system but they are likely slow it down if used together....



Having more programs scanning files before you get to use them... some programs keep files on hold and you don't want scans to take so long that a program stops responding....



Also I recommend AGAINST Norton Antivirus/Internet Security Suite, especially older versions around 2000-2003 vintage... it's too complex for its own good, and not only slows your system down but tends to eventually make windows fall over...



All that being said, I'm running Windows XP here and do have 2 virus scanners installed in tandem (I believe even that's probably overkill) both are free... Avast! and AVG free... (Avast also does some spyware scanning but stuff like Adaware seems to do better)
