Win32-Prevent a known Infection from a port:-No AntiVirus installed. Delete Autorun.INF.Anything els

(This is something that I face routinely with no failures. The boss doesnt want antivirus fearing data loss)

Suppose we've got a system which NEITHER has any history of any virus infection NOR has any Anti virus software in it!!. Suppose we are urgently required to process some files(or loose your job) in our computer which are contained in devices like portable HardDisk (around 160 GB), USB Pen-drive(Like 2-10 GB).and so forth AND we know for sure that they are infected. Do all viruses that affect Win32 get activated only by the help of "Autorun.INF" which instructs the Win-Explorer to activate a hidden infected EXE file? If so ARE we safe if we "find and delete" the Autorun.INF and any suspicious EXE using windows files-search? or , should we pay the price for not installing anitvirus?

(Consider that we installed "completely" the "windows XP" and nothing else)

You should be able to run Spybot Search and Destroy to identify virii. After it scan, it will let you choose whether to remove or ignore the threat.

Autorun-related or triggered infections are not common.

It's much more common for a registry key to load during boot.

Many anti-virus programs have an IMMUNIZE mode which checks every file as it opens.
