Yes it is highly recommended to first uninstall norton antivirus and then install your required antivirus. Otherwise it will not only make your system heavy but some functionalities of anti virus may also conflict with each other.

Some antivirus programs can work together
eg: norton and AVG
but most of the time it wont work
eg:-you are not allowed to install norton if Macfee previously installed
