Is there some sort of Antivirus boot cd?

Some sort of antivirus program that runs in DOS (without having to have like norton installed) that will do a virus scan? For instance if the computer is so screwed up that nothing can run.

If the problem is virus related, the best best is to yank the hard drive and install it in a good running computer as a slave drive. Now scan with the good computers virus scanner. Many virus scan install disks also will boot a limited scanner.

You can use Norton itself to bootup scan.. Use Notron Antivirus bootable CD.. it will scan your HDD when you system tries to boot!!!

Hiren's Boot CD has many utilitities within it. It also a few Anti-virus software loaded which run of the CD, but you do have to download the virus patches and copy it into the Virus def folders before you burn the CD. It's a bootable CD and the anti-virus prog's can do a full system scan. But you need to have a p2p program to download this software.

And there's also Stinger from McAfee, which clean's not all but some of the major high rish viruses from your system

NOD32 or Avira are both very good antivirus programs - whether they can clean the infection(s) or not depends on the infection! Some are more difficult to remove than others and require a specialised removal tool or manual removal. You could also try booting your PC into safe mode and doing a scan.

Free - For starters, download, update and run a full scan using SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) http://www.superantispyware.com/

SAS is an exceptionally easy to use application that will remove the majority of difficult Trojans and Worms, not just the easy ones. In addition it has the ability to remove Vundo and Smitfraud infections. SAS can lock your home page to prevent browser hi-jacking attempts.

If possible it is recommended that you load SAS in normal mode but run it in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be started by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. If you are badly infected you might need to run SAS more than once to help clean your system. Afterwards if the only infections now being shown are in System Restore, once you are completely satisfied that you can boot normally, you can either delete the infected restore points manually, or temporarily turn off System Restore to purge the files.

Assuming you have some real awkward infections that persist even after trying all the above I suggest you download a dedicated Smitfraud removal program from:

Im using norton antivirus the 2nd edition and its not providing my computer with full protection only the 'Active armor firewall' or 'advanced firewall' is turned off i dont no how to turn it on i tried to go in options settings but no use.

I can't really answer your question, but I wanted to let you know that Norton's is not the best for your computer. I had it and my computer started to run EXTREMELY slow to the point where we could hardly start it without it freezing. When I took it in to be repaired they told me that there was a lot of dust plus Nortons was not good for my computer (Dell with windows XP) and that the reason it ran so slow was because Nortons takes up A LOT of space on your hard drive. So they removed it and installed a program called AVG 7.5 and Ad-Aware. I've had no problem since....it's MUCH easier to update and generally use.

go on the computer put in free downloads and they have some or if you use lime wire you can but I'm not sure if i would trust it with no protection if you use msn they have it free you just install it
have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall.
